etsy get the look decor

Saturday January 7, 2012

Life got busy and I forgot to post about our house feature on Etsy’s Get the Look Decor blog.

It was so fun to be featured on Etsy. I am a huge fan of Etsy and love searching for handmade and vintage treasures.

I thought the links to all the similar styled objects/decor/trinkets was super interesting to see, and I loved the collages that Christine made of each room in our house. It was so fun to share our home with a larger audience.

Also, I am going to come back and read all those comments whenever I’m feeling down – they were so positive!

What a year for our little house, Apartment Therapy House Tour and an Etsy Get the Look Decor feature! Very cool.

living and changing

Monday May 3, 2010

Sometimes you just need a little change and other times you need a BIG change. I am somewhere in-between little and BIG when it comes to our house, our yard, and ALL OF MY CLOTHES!

I started in the bedroom and the revamp felt awesome so I have started to move to the other rooms in the house…..Oh, and I went shopping at Anthropologie and well, bought way too many new dresses!

Here are the living and dining room before photos. Basically, our house is really dark most of the time (I know it might not look like it in these photos but trust me)!  The dark woodwork, dark sofa, dark rug, and dark brick wall of the fireplace (which blocks most of the light from the east) make it feel very dark in our house.  I really want it too feel lighter but haven’t figured out how to do this without buying a new sofa, rug, and revamping the brick!  I did buy some paint for the living room so hopefully we can start painting this week.  Check out the full set of photos here.

I have always said change is good.  So, what do you want to change in your life?

bedroom before and after

Wednesday April 7, 2010

It has been way tooooooo long since I have blogged!  Craziness.

Of course I am still updating the world on my happenings via Twitter (and Facebook) so you can always keep up with my life there.  If you are not on Twitter or Facebook (which is totally fine!) – check to your right to see my tweets :)

It has been a beautiful early Minnesota spring and the sunny days have been very inspiring to me.  A few weeks ago we decided the bedroom needed a makeover and got to work!  Check out the whole set of photos here.

Jake and I had been living with the same arrangement and paint color for three years and it was definitely time for a change.  The color before might look just fine in these photos but please keep in mind that in person it was a dull light green that was just plain uninspiring.  We picked out Misty Gray from Benjamin Moore. It took us about 5 seconds to choose a color because we knew that we wanted a very light gray. I think it looks beautiful!

We rearranged the bed, put some different art on the walls, and got a new bedspread for $14.99 from Ikea.  Total price for makeover – $60 (paint, print, and bedspread).

Whenever I rearrange furniture, art, or paint a room I always think, “Why didn’t I do this sooner?”  So let that be an inspiration to you — if you are thinking about making a change in your house, bedroom, office, kitchen, or life :) Just DO IT! Change is good.

So, what do you think?

birds of a feather watching the weather

Wednesday December 16, 2009

Here is a wide shot of my magical gnome forest — on the mantel. The gnomes are tucked in-between pine bows, nordic pines and other little treasures.

Gnomes

Last week I posed a few questions for potential party guests — today the answers to those questions.

Question 1: I bought four new ornaments this year, which ones are they?

Felted wool Santa made by Elsa Jo Kelm of Minnesota. I found the Santa, Ebenezer Scrooge and Gnomes at the Textile Center in St. Paul.

And vintage Swedish Elf for $1.00 at local antique store.

Question 2: How many animals are on the tree? There are 14: one pig, two roosters, two dogs, two puffins, one crane, one bird, one moose, one reindeer, one sheep, one bear, and one hen.

Question 3: Knowing (or guessing) my sense of humor, what do I currently think is the funniest thing in our house?  This question was my favorite. Although I think Jake is very funny, he is currently not the funniest thing in my house right now.  This painting by Barbara Gilhooly is my sense of humor to a ‘T’ — if you look closely you can see a tiny bird giving the weather report on the TV (also, look for the tiny USA map).

Birds of a feather watching the weather — now that, is funny.

i love my label maker

Tuesday December 1, 2009

Currently working a few projects in our basement.
Constantly cleaning out the clutter.
But what’s new?

Labeling my bins after they are all organized and de-cluttered is without-a-doubt the best part.

I do love my label maker.

A few examples of new labels include, Anne’s Childhood, Sketch Books & Jake’s Art, Anne’s Graduate School, and of course, the classic, hugely ambiguous, don’t know what to do with this shit, Memories.

What do I do with all those memories???

Oh yeah, “Remember it, but throw that away!
